NFCA MaxPreps Awards for the Week Ending May 31st

NFCA/MaxPreps HS Player of the WeekSTARKVILLE, Miss. – Seniors Allyson Fournier of East Catholic High School in Manchester, Conn., Miranda Kemp of Battlefield High School in Haymarket, Va., junior Nicola Tade of Park Center High School in Brooklyn Park, Minn., and freshman Jazmyn Jackson of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif. have all been named as the High School Players of the Week for their respective regions by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through May 31, 2011. 

In the East Region, Fournier went 2-0 in the circle last week tossing two complete game shutouts over Manchester and Windsor.  On the week the senior struck out 35 of the 45 batters she faced and only allowed 3 hits. At the plate she was 5 for 7 with a double and 2 RBI.  On the season Fournier is hitting .460 and owns a .21 ERA holding opposing hitters to a .104 batting average.  The wins helped the Eagles improve to 16-4 on the year.

Representing the South Region, Kemp pitched her team to three victories last week including 2 shutouts, one of which was a no-hitter.  In 19 innings she struck out 31 and yielded only 3 hits recording an ERA of 0.00.  For the season the senior has posted an ERA of .58, while holding opposing hitters to a .073 batting average.  In 97 innings pitched she has struck out 161 and has walked a mere 23 batters. Her efforts in the circle helped Bobcats improve their record to 21-1, 8-0 in conference.

From the North Region, Tade tossed two shutouts to go 2-0 in the circle.  The junior struck out 20 while walking only one, improving her overall ERA to .91.  She has struck out nearly half the the batters she has faced this season, and in 123 innings she has walked only 32. The wins improved her record to 18-3 and helped the Pirates improve to 20-3 on the year, earning the program a MaxPreps ranking of number for the state of Minnesota.

In the West Region, Jackson has been stellar at the plate for the Monarchs this season.  This past week the freshman hit .833, including a double, a triple, a homerun, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored for a slugging percentage of 1.833.  Jackson is hitting .485 for the sesason and has been burning up the basepaths with 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts.  Her efforts have helped her team to a 28-3 record, good enough for a MaxPreps state rank of three, and an national rank of eleven.

The NFCA High School Players of the Week, one for each high school region, will be announced by the Association on www.nfca.org every Monday during the spring season.
