Register By Sept. 23 To Receive Discounted Rates for NFCC Course on Practice Organization

Course 406STARKVILLE, Miss. – Time is running out to take advantage of discounted rates for the first National Fastpitch Coaches College course of the 2011-12 academic year. Friday, Sept. 23, is the deadline to receive $25 off Course 406: “Coaching Dynamic Team Practices," that will be offered Oct. 7-8 on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

This year’s edition of Course 406 will be unlike any other in the history of the NFCC, as participants will be allowed to peek into the inner workings of a major college softball program.

Michigan head coach and NFCA Hall Famer Carol Hutchins will pull away the curtain and allow participants to view how a Wolverine practice is not only planned, but executed as well. After watching the practice, participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of Coach Hutchins and her staff on things they saw during the practice.

Along with Hutchins, Louisville Associate Head Coach Carol Bruggeman and another NFCA Hall of Famer, Cindy Bristow, will lead participants in the classroom portion of the course, as well as discuss observations from practice.

With a career record of 582-393-2 over 17 years, Carol Bruggeman has long been considered one of the top names in softball. Entering her sixth season with Louisville, Bruggeman continues to lead a Louisville defensive unit that has been ranked in the Top 30 nationally twice over the past four seasons. Apart from her work with Louisville, Bruggeman has also been instrumental in the growth of the NFCA. She served as the Association’s Division I representative on the executive board from 1996-2000 and as its president from 2006-2010. She continues to serve on the executive board as the past president.

Michigan head coach and NFCA Hall of Famer Carol Hutchins is one of the most successful college coaches in the history of softball. Her accomplishments speak loudly -- 14 regular-season Big Ten titles, 17 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, 13 NCAA regional crowns, nine trips to the Women’s College World Series in the past 16 seasons and eight NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year awards. With 1,232 career wins, Hutchins is the all-time winningest coach in any sport at Michigan and is currently fifth amongst NCAA coaches from all divisions behind Margie Wright, Yvette Girouard, Mike Candrea and Gayle Blevins, respectively.

NFCA Hall of Famer Cindy Bristow has more than 38 years of coaching experience including stops at Arizona State, New Mexico State, Wichita State and the Women’s Professional Softball League’s Florida Wahoos. Bristow also served as the ASA’s Olympic youth softball director and as USA Softball’s director of national teams, where she helped select the U.S. coaching staff that won the first-ever Olympic softball gold medal in 1996. Currently, Bristow owns Softball Excellence, an online company that is dedicated to providing first-rate softball instruction.

Registration for the course is available at www.nfca.org/college or by calling (662) 323-2155. The cost is $200 for members and $225 for non-members until Sept. 23, after which the price will be an additional $25. A discount of $100 is also being offered for this course for programs that have more than one coach attend the class. For programs with multiple coaches attending, the head coach will pay the regular price while any other members of the staff can attend for $100 off.
