Women's Sports Foundation Accepting Nominations For Coach Of The Year Award

The Women's Sports Foundation is requesting nominations for Coach of the Year Award for 2000. This award recognizes female coaches working with youth, school and college athletes at the grassroots level who contribute to building youth sports programs. The Foundation celebrates those "unsung heroines" who contribute their talents, time and enthusiasm for the benefit of grassroots sports programs for girls.

Up to four outstanding coaches are chosen based on their coaching accomplishments, commitment to girls' and women's sports, years of service, significant contribution to sports and coaching, sportsmanship, ethical conduct and abilities as a role model and mentor. These coaches will be honored at the Women's Sports Foundation's Annual Summit, May 4-7, 2000. The award winners will receive round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations to accept the award and a $500 donation will be made in the coach's name to the girls or women's sports team of her choice.

ELIGIBILITY: Any female grassroots level coach may be nominated for this award. "Grassroots" level includes youth, community recreation, elementary, middle or high school. Junior college, community college, NAIA and NCAA Division III coaches are also eligible. The purpose of this award is to recognize those women who work with programs that are less visible and do not receive the recognition, media attention or financial support of an elite coach. Women coaching at the NCAA Division I or II, national team, professional or major league level are not eligible.Nominations are due February 11, 2000.

The NFCA encourages its members to nominate NFCA member coaches they believe to be worthy of this award. If you have questions, call the Women's Sports Foundation at 1-800-227-3988.
