Simpson pitcher Kelly Schade is considered to be the greatest pitcher in the history of NCAA Division III softball. When she graduated in the spring of 1999, she took with her seven NCAA Division III single season and career records, every Simpson career and season pitching record, and two national championship rings.

She signed with the Virginia Roadsters of the Women's Professional Softball League on May 28, 1999 after leading the Storm to its second national title in three years. The Osceola, Iowa native was selected as the receipient of the 1999 Honda Award, symbolizing the best athlete in Division III sports upon the conclusion of her senior season. She was also selected with the University of Georgia's Matt Stichcomb as the 1998-99 GTE Academic All-America of the Year Team Members for all sports. In January of 2000, she was named as one of the NCAA's Top VIII for the 1998-99 calender year.
