Amanda Michalsky, Senior outfielder, University of Texas, San Antonio.
First team all Southland Conference preseason selection and thereturning "Player and Hitter of the Year." Will fill the leadoff spot inthe batting lineup once again this season while starting in left field. Inher three year career with the Roadrunners, she has stuck out only 13 timesin 443 at-bats.
As a Junior: Led Division I in hitting with a .541 batting average as well as slugging percentage with a 1.019 mark. Broke numerous UTSA records including home runs (19), runs scored (57), extra base hits (37), doubles (17) and RBI's (45). Was named the Southland Conference "Player of the Year" and "Hitter of the Year" and was UTSA's "Most Valuable Player." She led the league in seven offensive categories which include runs, doubles, total bases (162), slugging percentage, hits (86), on-base percentage (.597) and home runs. She had three multi-hit home run games with one grand slam, which came on the first game of the season. She maintanined a .500 batting average and had a slugging percentage over 1.000 all season and established 13 three-hit games during the season. She was named the Southland Conference Ã¬Player of the WeekÃ® three times.
As a Sophomore: Hit .313 in 51 games. Recorded 46 hits in 147 trips to the plate. Was tied for third on the team in doubles with seven and was tied for second on the team with 18 RBI's. Recorded game-winning RBIÃs three times. Struck out only four times and was the 19th hardest person in the nation to strike out.
As a Freshman: Was the third most difficult player in the nation to strike out. She struck out only one time in 137 plate appearances over 50 games. Led the team with a .314 batting average (min. 100 at-bats), runs scored (21), doubles (10), total bases (56) and sacrifices (21) and was second in hits (43). Hit her first career home run against Texas (4-23-97). Her .314 batting average ranked 13th in the SLC while her 10 doubles ranked in a tie for sixth in the conference. Recorded 95 putouts and 72 assists.
High School: Was a three-year letter winner and starter at McCullough High School. Was a first team all-district selection as a senior and was amember of the second team as both a junior and a sophomore. Also participated in tennis and volleyball. She competed in the Spring-KleinSoftball League for the Spring-Klein Hawks which reached the national tournament three consecutive years (1994-96).
Personal: Major is undecided. Born Aug. 27, 1978 in Houston. One of five children of Gerald and Gaile Michalsky of Spring, Texas. Is a fan of Jeff Bagwell of the Houston Astros and her favorite basketball team is the Houston Rockets. Favorite television show is Friends.
