Photo courtesy of Florida State Athletic Media RelationsSTARKVILLE, Miss. – Junior pitcher Monica Perry of Florida State has been named as the Louisville Slugger Division I National Player of the Week for games played Feb. 20-26.

Perry went 3-0 in four appearances last week to help the Seminoles stay undefeated in 2012. For the week, the junior from Whitesburg, Ga., tallied a 0.98 ERA, 37 strikeouts, just two walks, allowed just three earned runs and limited opponents to a .133 batting average.

On Saturday, Perry picked up her first relief win of the year against Wisconsin, retiring the final nine batters of the game in order to give the Seminoles a 2-1 win. She also turned in two 10-plus strikeout performances over the four-game span and averaged 9.25 strikeouts over four appearances.

Perry now stands at 6-0 on the season with a 1.39 ERA, 56 strikeouts, just eight walks and an opponent’s batting average of .159.

The 20th ranked Seminoles are currently 15-0 on the season and are off to the second best start in school history. That record is currently held by the 1992 Florida State squad that began their campaign by winning their first 25 games.  This week, Perry and teammates will travel to Hawai‘i for games with UC Santa Barbara, Radford and a clash with fellow unbeaten and host, No. 22 Hawai‘i.
