*Gold Bracket*

Kennesaw State 4, Texas A&M-Kingsville 2 (9 innings)

Gold Bracket Most Valuable Player Melissa Vansant's defensive play prevented a run and Kristen Bell's sacrifice fly sparked a three-run ninth inning as nationally third-ranked Kennesaw State defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville to win the inaugural Schutt Sports/Division II Leadoff Classic. Texas A&M-Kingsville threatened to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth, as its seven-eight-nine batters loaded the bases with nobody out. After Tiffany Gates hit into a fielder's choice for the first out, Amanda Moreno hit a fly ball to Vansant in center, who made the catch and threw to home to get TAMU-Kingsville runner Liana Flores at the plate.

TAMU-Kingsville starter Maria Gutierrez allowed only one hit through five innings, but Kennesaw State broke the deadlock in the top of the sixth on a leadoff double by Krissy Bamford, who eventually scored on an error. TAMU-Kingsville again loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh and after a short fly out and a fielder's choice, Moreno walked on a 3-2 pitch to drive in the tying run and force extra innings.

Kennesaw State failed to score in the top of the eighth and TAMU-Kingsville threatened again in the bottom of the eighth. With the international tie-breaker in effect, Sarah Norman was advanced from second to third when the KSU third baseman was called for being in foul territory. The next two batters were intentionally walked to give TAMU-Kingsville bases loaded and nobody out for the third time in four innings. KSU pitcher Lacey Gardner got out of the inning with a fielder's choice, an infield pop-up and strikeout.

In the top of the ninth, KSU loaded the bases and Janna Maughon scored on Bell's sacrifice fly. After a fielder's choice loaded the bases, Nicole Blue singled home a pair of runs to extend KSU's lead to 4-1. TAMU-Kingsville rallied in the bottom of the inning as Moreno beat out an infield single to drive in a with one out, but Gardner retired the final two batters on ground outs to seal the win and the championship.
