NFCA MaxPreps Awards For The Week Ending April 14
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior Susan Knight of Edison High School in Milan, Ohio, juniors Kailey Regester of Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz, and Emily Work of Ell-Saline High School in Brookville, Kan., and sophomores Rebekah Fox of Pelham High School in Pelham, Ala. and Rachel Pollard of Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township, N.J., have all been named as the High School Players of the Week for their respective regions by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through April 14, 2012.
Representing the North Region, Knight helped her team to five victories this week, improving her team’s record to 13-1. In 22 innings of work, she held batters to an astounding .067 batting average, allowing no earned runs and only 5 hits, while striking out 37 batters in 5 starts. On the season, she boasts an ERA of .22 in 64 innings of work, with 93 strikeouts while only allowing 2 earned runs and an amazing 19 hits. The Chargers are currently ranked #3 in Ohio.
In the West Region, Regester went 6 for 12 on the week, improving her a batting average to .458 for the season. Of Regester’s 6 hits, 5 of them were for extra bases as she smashed 1 homerun and 2 doubles in victories over Chandler (Ariz.), Highland (Ariz.) and Hamilton (Ariz.) High Schools. Adding to her week, she tallied 7 RBI to give her a grand total of 29 thus far this season. She also pitched 8 innings, highlighted by 9 K in the win over Hamilton. Basha improved to 23-4 and a #6 ranking in Arizona.
From the South Central Region, Work is off to quite the start offensively this season. This week she improved her overall batting average of .733 by going 16 for 19, with 11 RBI, 4 doubles, 4 triples and one round tripper. In a 2 for 3 performance over Moundridge (Kan.), the junior just missed hitting for the cycle with 4 RBI, 1 triple and 1 homerun. The Cardinals are off to a 6-1 start so far this season.
Out of the South Region, Fox dominated on the mound this week. She threw 20.1 innings, striking out 9 batters and allowing only 2 earned runs, while twice coming in to earn saves against both Stanhope Elmore (Ala.) and Alabama Christian Academy (Ala.). In 9 games, the sophomore went 8-1 in the circle, while racking up 10 hits in 19 AB, highlighted by a performance against Oak Mountain (Ala.), where she was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and 2 doubles. On the season the sophomore owns a .50 ERA and has helped helped the Panthers improve to 31-5 on the season, and a #2 ranking in the state.
Rounding out this week's awards from the East Region, Pollard had an outstanding week in the circle for Immaculate Heart Academy. The sophomore pitched 18 scoreless innings, striking out 19 and scattering only 7 hits while not walking a batter. On the year Pollard owns a 0.00 ERA and has yet to yield an extra-base hit. The wins helped the Eagles improve to a 9-0 start this season.
