Lewis’ Rourke & Fort Hays’ Holub Named As Louisville Slugger Division II National Player & Pitcher of the Week

Lewis' Jessica Rourke. Courtesy of Lewis Sports Information.STARKVILLE, Miss. – Sophomore Jessica Rourke of Lewis and junior Maddie Holub of Fort Hays State have been named as the Louisville Slugger Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played April 16-22.

Rourke helped lead the Flyers to a 6-0 week by going 13-for-18 at the plate with five runs, 11 RBIs, three doubles, four walks and a home run. For the week, she batted .722, slugged 1.056 and had an on-base percentage of 1.056.

The Lockport, Ill., native has played a key role in Lewis’ hot streak of late, having won 13 of its last 14 as it makes a push for the postseason. Last week, Rourke had multiple hits in each of her six games and multiple RBIs in four of the six. In an 11-4 over win Southern Indiana, Rourke was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with two RBIs and a home run.

The sophomore is currently second on her team in batting average at .369, to go along with 10 doubles and 29 RBIs.

Holub was 4-0 in the circle last week, allowing just one earned run and eight hits over 31 complete innings. The junior also fanned 57 batters over six appearances, while walking just six. She ended the week with a 0.22 ERA, a .077 opponent’s batting average and 12.9 strikeouts per seven innings.

The Hays, Kan., native tossed the first no-hitter of her career on Tuesday in a 1-0 win over Northwest Missouri State in which she struck out 13 batters. Holub also notched three 10-plus strikeout performances last week, with a high of 16 coming in a 5-1 win over Pittsburg State. She finished the week with three complete games and two shutouts.

Holub is currently 17-8 on the year with a 1.64 ERA and 279 strikeouts. She currently ranks third in the nation in both strikeouts and hit per seven innings with 11.2 and 3.68, respectively, and is fourth in total strikeouts.

Ariana Darcy of Massachusetts-Lowell helped pace the River Hawks to a 3-2 week by batting .611, including hitting for the cycle in an 11-8 loss to American International… Sonoma State’s Samantha Lipperd paced the Seawolves to another 4-0 week with a 0.00 ERA and 43 strikeouts… Stephanie Foreman of Wayne State (MI) had multiple hits in five of six games last week to end the week with a .684 average and 10 RBIs… Columbus State’s Mollie Russell helped lead the Cougars to a 4-0 week and their first-ever Peach Belt Conference tournament title with a 0.00 ERA and a .116 opponent’s batting average.
