Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week

Kennesaw State University (Ga.) centerfielder Melissa Vansant is this week's Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week.

Vansant, a junior from Conyers, Ga., was named Most Valuable Player of the Gold Bracket in the inaugural Schutt Sports/Division II Leadoff Classic at Irving, Tex., over the weekend. Kennesaw State defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 4-2 in nine innings in the championship game.

Vansant made a key defensive play with the bases loaded in the fifth inning of the championship game, catching a fly ball on a sacrifice fly attempt and throwing the runner out at the plate for an inning-ending double play. Vansant's heroics began in the first round of bracket play, as she beat out an infield single to drive in the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Texas Wesleyan 8-7. Vansant, who bats ninth in the Kennesaw State lineup, went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the Owls' 9-1 victory over Regis (Colo.).

Kennesaw State, ranked No. 3 in the NFCA Division II Coaches Top 25, posted a 6-0 record in the tournament.
