Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week

Jenny Topping of the University of Washington is this week's Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for the 2000 season.

Topping, a freshman first baseman from Whittier, California, was named the Outstanding Player of the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia, last week after winning the Classic's "triple crown." She led the LOC in batting average (.667 on 10-for-15), home runs (five) and RBI (12) as the No. 1 ranked Huskies went 6-0 in tournament play and ran their overall record to 24-1. Topping's solo home run was the difference in the Huskies' 1-0 win over No. 7 Fresno State in the Leadoff Classic championship game. That home run, her 13th of the season, tied the school single-season home run record and was UW's 39th home run as a team, tying another school single-season mark.

Topping is the second consecutive Washington freshman to receive Division I Player of the Week honors. Last week, UW shortstop/outfielder Jaime Clark was the Div. I honoree.
