ISF Special Congress Votes On Charter to Combine Softball/Baseball Olympic Bid

HOUSTON, Texas - On Tuesday, October 30, the International Softball Federation held their Special Congress to consider and vote on a resolution to combine with baseball (the International Baseball Federation - IBAF) for the 2020 Olympic Programme.

Even with travel concerns caused by Hurricane Sandy, the ISF experienced a good turnout among their national softball federations.

After considerable discussion and debate, the Special Congress approved the creation of a charter for a new international confederation for softball and baseball with 71% in favor.

“I was pleased with the results and look forward to meeting with the IBAF officials for further discussions and continuing preparations for the IOC presentation in December," ISF President, Don Porter said. "There’s going to be a lot of positive things that we can do together for both our sports, not just for the Olympics but in the long term.”

The December 2012 deadline looms for the short-listed sports (also includes karate, squash, roller sports, sports climbing, wakeboarding and wushu) to ready presentations for the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Softball will learn its 2020 fate next May as the IOC Executive Board will recommend one of the short-listed sports (or perhaps the joint softball/baseball bid) to the IOC Session for a final vote on inclusion slated for September 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
