2012 NFCA Convention Officially Gets Underway on Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The 2012 NFCA National Convention ("Coaching Magic") officially got underway on Wednesday, November 28, at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa in Orlando, Fla., with approximately 1,100 coaching members in attendance.

The day opened with Softball Excellence founder Cindy Bristow leading a group of over 200 in the annual pre-convention seminar.  Focusing on pitching, the four-hour discussion also utilized live pitching/catching demonstrations to show coaches the best methods to utilize in order to improve their team’s pitching efforts.

The afternoon saw several committees convene for their annual in-person meetings. Those opportunities at the convention grant members not only a chance to set their agenda for the year, but also the chance to meet fellow committee members, often for the first time.

After committee meetings, the membership gathered in the ballroom for the general session. Following a speech from NFCA President Patrick Murphy and presentations of the NFCA Golden Shoe, Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year and NFCA Team Academic awards, those in attendance were privy to presentations from longtime UCLA Head Coach Sue Enquist about recruiting standards and talks about the state of the USA Baseball program by Jenny Dalton-Hill and USA Softball program from both ASA/USA Softball Executive Director Ron Radigonda and Media Relations Director Julie Bartel.

NFCA Executive Director Lacy Lee Baker then stepped to the microphone, providing members with an update on the state and growth of the Association.

On Thursday, each membership division will conduct its caucus meetings, coaches with 2012 win milestones will be recognized at the Easton Victory Club luncheon, Alabama associate head coach Alyson Habetz will speak on “Championship Outfield Play,” and both the annual mentoring session and softball summit will be held.
