CLEARWATER, Fla. – Following a remarkably successful weekend at the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., senior outfielder B.B. Bates of No. 16 UCLA has been chosen as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week (February 19) for games played over February 14-17.
For the week Bates hit a staggering .706 (12-for-17) with eight home runs, including at least one in each of the Bruins’ five contests, 10 runs scored and 19 RBIs to go along with a 2.176 slugging percentage and a .722 on-base percentage. She started off her impressive efforts during a dominant, 11-1 (5 inn.) run-rule triumph over then-No. 20 Hawai’i by going 3-for-3 at the dish with three runs scored, two HR’s and five RBIs. Next up were 3-for-4, 2 HR, five-RBI, 3-for-3, 2 HR, four-RBI and 2-for-3, HR, two-RBI performances in victories over San Jose State (8-4), Seattle (9-0, 5 inn.) and Louisiana-Monroe (9-1, six inn.), respectively, before wrapping up her weekend with a three-run blast during an 11-2 (6 inn.) rout of Ohio.
