No. 15 Michigan Leads the Way After Day Two of the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic

CLEARWATER, Fla. – With only Sunday’s action remaining in the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla., No. 15 Michigan leads the standings overall as the event’s lone undefeated squad at 4-0.

The Wolverines (10-2) opened Saturday with a 6-0 victory over UC Davis before closing their day’s efforts with a 3-0 shutout of Hofstra.  In the nightcap UM pitcher Sara Driesenga outdueled Pride All-American hurler Olivia Galati while tossing a no-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Right behind the Maize & Blue in the standings is a logjam of five teams in possession of identical 3-1 records:  James Madison, Louisiana-Lafayette, Indiana, UCF and DePaul.  The Blue Demons and Wolverines will contest a Sunday match-up at 10 a.m. ET on Field 3.

Two teams have failed to win a single game thus far at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic as No. 17 USF and Fordham each possess 0-4 marks.

Play kicks-off bright and early on Sun., Feb. 24, at 9:30 a.m. ET with UC Davis facing Illinois State.

The NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic features a round-robin style format with the championship going to the team with the best winning percentage on the weekend.  In case of ties, a series of pre-determined tiebreakers will be used to decide winners.  Individual performances will also be honored at the tournament with a Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Pitcher award, as well as an All-Tournament team.
