Valdosta State Remains On Top of the NFCA DII Top 25 Poll for the Second Straight Week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After receiving 15 of 16 possible first-place votes, defending national champion Valdosta State (13-2) remains at the top of the NFCA Division II softball poll for a second consecutive week.
The Blazers picked up 399 total points, falling just a single tally shy of being the unanimous choice as the top-ranked squad in the country. Second-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State (15-4) cut into VSU’s advantage, however, trimming its deficit from 29 points to 23 in the latest rankings, while West Texas A&M (10-1) remained at No. 3, picking up the other remaining first-place nod from the voting committee. North Georgia (16-3) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (11-3) continued to hold down the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
No. 6 Indianapolis (10-2) and No. 7 Tampa (11-2) swapped positions in this week’s poll, as did eighth-rated Rollins (19-1) and ninth-ranked Central Oklahoma (9-3). At 11-2-1 overall, Armstrong Atlantic is making its first appearance of the 2013 season in the national top 10, rising a single spot from last week to No. 10.
Colorado School of Mines received the largest boost in this week’s ranking, catapulting from the list of squads “receiving votes” all the way to No. 12. At 13-2-1 the Orediggers have now won six straight games, coming off last weekend’s four-game sweep of Western New Mexico.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
