W. TX A&M’s Erwin, Fort Hays St.'s Holub Earn Louisville Slugger NFCA Div. II Nat'l Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Renee Erwin of West Texas A&M and Maddie Holub of Fort Hays State have been selected as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 13, respectively.

A sophomore outfielder for the Lady Buffs and reigning Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week, Erwin helped her squad to a perfect 5-0 week by hitting .645 overall with three doubles, two triples, three HR’s (including a pair of grand slams) and 17 RBIs, while successfully reaching base via hit in all five contests.  In the opener against Northwest Oklahoma State on March 5, the Anna, Texas, native went 3-for-4 with a triple, a grand slam and seven RBIs as West Texas A&M crushed the Lady Rangers, 13-1 (5 inn.).  She continued her prolific production into the series against Tarleton State, going 2-for-3 with a HR and three RBIs, 1-for-2 with a grand slam and four RBIs, and 2-for-4 with a double, triple and a RBI in the series’ three contests, respectively.

Senior pitcher/outfielder Holub starred in both the circle and at the plate for the Tigers this past week, going 4-0 with four complete-games, a 0.75 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 28 innings of effort while hitting .464 overall with eight runs scored, three doubles, a triple, five HR’s, a 1.179 slugging percentage and 10 RBIs.  The Hays, Kan., native recorded pitching victories over then-No. 11 Tampa (1-0) and No. 24 Winona State (12-2, 6 inn.), while contributing a double and scoring the game’s lone run in the former.  She totaled at least 10 K’s during each of her four starts during the week, and at the plate her finest effort was a 4-for-4 performance with a pair of two-run HR’s in the victory over nationally ranked Winona State.  Holub also received nods as both the MIAA Player and Pitcher of the Week for her outstanding efforts.
