UW-Whitewater Cracks Top 25, Montclair State Retains No. 1 Spot in NFCA DIII Rankings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After jumping out to a 6-0 start on the season, University of Wisconsin - Whitewater made the largest splash in this week’s NFCA Division III Top 25 poll, jumping from the list of unranked and not receiving votes to No. 19.

The Warhawks were not alone in entering the poll after being previously unranked as Rowan (13-3) re-joined the Top 25 at No. 22 after garnering just nine points last week.

Montclair State (12-0) retained its top ranking, while Emory (34-1), Illinois Wesleyan (8-1), UT-Tyler (20-2) and Trine (12-1) filled in at No. 2 through No. 5 again this week with IWU and UT-Tyler swapping positions from the previous poll.

At 3-1 on the season, Luther landed at sixth, up one spot from last week, followed by Tufts (13-1) at No. 7 and East Texas Baptist University (17-3) at No. 8.

The first of three ties occurred at the No. 9 position this week with Linfield (17-5) and Salisbury (16-2) both receiving the same amount of points. Piedmont followed at No. 11 with a 21-3 record on the season so far.

The second deadlock occurred at No. 12 in the poll as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (18-6) and St. Thomas (8-2) totaled the same number of points. Immediately following them, Redlands (15-7) and Simpson (19-3) each tied at No. 14 in the poll.

Coe (13-1), Lynchburg (15-4), Roanoke (13-4), UW-Whitewater (6-0) and Carthage (6-2) earned poll positions 16-20 this week, respectively.

The bottom of the Top 25 was rounded out by 17-8 Christopher Newport at No. 21, Rowan (13-3) at No. 22, Eastern Connecticut (3-3) at No. 23, Chapman (19-7) at No. 24 and Plattsburgh State (7-5) at No. 25.

A slew of teams earned points this week but fell short of a Top 25 ranking. They were Haverford, UW-Eau Claire, The College of New Jersey, Randolph Macon, Virginia Wesleyan, Susquehanna, Washington College, Central, La Verne and Moravian.

The NFCA Division III Top 25 poll is compiled each week by a committee of voters with one representative from each of the eight Division III softball regions.  To view the complete poll, please click this link.
