West Texas A&M the Unanimous No. 1 as the Top Six Teams in the NFCA DII Poll Remain Unchanged

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time since the preseason the voters are all in agreement on a unanimous choice for No. 1 as West Texas A&M (24-2) received all 16 possible first-place votes to head the NFCA Division II rankings for the third consecutive week.

The Lady Buffs had no trouble sweeping a three-game Lone Star Conference series from Texas A&M-Kingsville, improving their record to 24-2 overall with 8-0 (5 inn.), 12-0 (5 inn.) and 10-2 (5 inn.) run-rule triumphs over the Javelinas.

Overall, the nation’s top six squads remained the same from last week as Indianapolis (24-2), Valdosta State (23-6), Armstrong Atlantic State (22-3-1), Southeastern Oklahoma State (27-6) and North Georgia (30-7) continued in the same positions from last week at two through six, respectively.

The No. 2-ranked Greyhounds held steady following a perfect 4-0 week with doubleheader sweeps at Bellarmine (6-1, 9-1) and McKendree (6-0, 9-0 in 6 inn.), while third-rated VSU had three doubleheaders cancelled via either scheduling or weather concerns. No. 4 AASU nabbed a pair of decisions from Kutztown (7-2, 9-7), No. 5 SEOSU swept both ends of a doubleheader from Southern Nazarene (3-0, 6-1) and sixth-ranked North Georgia was 3-1 for the week after splitting a pair of games at Georgia College (4-5, 4-0) and sweeping a DH at Francis Marion (4-1, 3-1 in 11 inn.).

No. 7 Rollins climbed three positions from last week and improved to 32-4 overall after sweeping a three-game set from Eckerd (7-0 in 5 inn., 8-3, 9-4), while Texas Woman’s (30-7) rose a single slot to eighth by taking three straight decisions from Cameron (15-7, 9-2, 10-2).  Central Oklahoma (20-5) leapt seven spots from No. 16 last week all the way to ninth after knocking off then-No. 19 Midwestern State (11-8) and Nebraska-Kearney (5-2, 6-4). California (Pa.), the last remaining undefeated team in the top 25 at 14-0, improved two positions to No. 10 despite a no-action week that included a postponement of a road DH at West Liberty.

Humboldt State (24-9) made the week’s greatest poll improvement, skyrocketing from unranked to No. 14 after improving its winning streak to 12 straight games with a pair of victories over Notre Dame de Namur (7-4, 7-3) and a four-contest sweep of San Francisco State (2-0, 2-1, 1-0, 6-1).  Also joining this week’s rankings are Missouri Western State (20-8) at No. 24 and Lenoir Rhyne (22-7) at No. 25.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
