Indianapolis Remains the Unanimous Choice for No. 1 in the NFCA Division II Softball Poll
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With its winning streak now at a remarkable 37 games, Indianapolis’ hold on No. 1 in the NFCA Division II national rankings improved to four consecutive weeks as the Greyhounds received all 16 possible first-place votes to remain in the top spot of the April 24th poll.
Indianapolis kept its skein intact by sweeping doubleheaders from Cedarville (5-0, 6-1), Bellarmine (8-3, 2-0) and McKendree (4-0, 5-1) to run its record to 44-2 overall and a perfect 24-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Armstrong (36-7-1) held firm in the No. 2 position despite suffering a defeat in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals versus then-No. 23 Columbus State, 5-1.
Southeastern Oklahoma State (40-7) and defending national champion Valdosta State (33-9) swapped positions from last week to hold down third and fourth, respectively. West Texas A&M (39-8) remained in the No. 5 slot following its 7-1 weekly effort that included doubleheader sweeps of Southern Nazarene (15-0 in 5 inn., 11-3 in 5 inn.) and Eastern New Mexico (14-0 in 5 inn., 19-3 in 5 inn.), three victories over Cameron (14-2 in 5 inn., 11-10, 7-2) and a 4-2 loss to St. Mary’s.
A four-game sweep of UC San Diego kept Humboldt State (40-12) in sixth, while California (Pa.) rose a single slot to No. 7 after going 5-1 last week, improving its overall record to 26-2 with a pair of victories over both Edinboro and Mercyhurst and a DH split against West Chester.
Texas Woman’s (40-11) made the largest positive move in the latest top 10, climbing two positions to eighth following a split against Tarleton State (4-6, 5-4 in 9 inn.) and a three-game sweep of Incarnate Word (3-1, 6-3, 12-2 in 6 inn.). Grand Valley State (30-4) remained at No. 9, while No. 10 North Alabama swept a DH from Union (6-0, 5-2) to make its initial appearance of the season in the top 10.
No. 13 North Georgia (36-12), No. 16 Sonoma State (32-16), No. 17 Caldwell (35-8), No. 22 Rollins (42-8) and No. 24 New Haven (30-11) all exited this week’s rankings, clearing room for the entrances of No. 14 Lenoir Rhyne (35-14), No. 15 LIU Post (36-11), No. 18 Grand Canyon (36-12), No. 19 Minnesota State Mankato (29-9) and No. 23 Adelphi (35-11).
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
