Humboldt State’s Randall, Columbus State’s Russell Garner Louisville Slugger/NFCA DII National Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Dani Randall of Humboldt State and Mollie Russell of Columbus State have been selected as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 24, respectively.

A sophomore outfielder and current California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week, Randall batted .667 (8-for-12) for the league regular-season titlist Jacks with five runs scored, a double, a triple, three HR’s and 12 RBIs as HSU swept a four-game set from defending national finalist UC San Diego. She slugged at a 1.667 clip and posted a .750 on-base percentage after also walking three times and being struck by a pitch. Perhaps her finest performance came during the opener against the Tritons as Randall went 3-for-4 at the dish with three HR’s and six RBIs while guiding Humboldt State to a commanding 11-3 (6 inn.) victory.

As a senior pitcher for the Cougars, Russell helped power her squad to a second consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament crown. She earned Most Valuable Player honors during a dominant run at the event by going 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA and striking out 17 over 21 innings of work while posting wins over Flagler (4-0), then-No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic State (5-1) and then-No. 14 Georgia College (12-0). After tossing a three-hit shutout during the tourney opener against Flagler, she scattered eight hits and allowed just a single tally in a complete-game, semifinal upset of Peach Belt regular-season champion Armstrong. Russell may have saved her best for the championship game as she limited nationally-ranked Georgia College to only two hits and K’ed nine over seven frames.
