NPF's Akron Racers Name UMSL's Levin as Field Manager

AKRON, Ohio - Akron Racers GM Joey Arrietta has announced that Brian Levin has been named the field manager for the 2014 campaign.

Levin, currently the head coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, takes over the controls of the NPF’s oldest existing team facing its 13th season of competition at the professional level in 2014.

“It is an honor to be selected as the field manager of the Racers and continue to build on the tradition of excellence that has been established since 1999,” Levin commented. “The Racers organization has been a tremendous promoter of the NPF and fastpitch softball at all levels. After meeting the staff and leadership of the Racers, I feel that we share a lot of the same values.”

“Our search focused on finding someone that shared the vision for our program and the knowledge to get it done,” Arrietta noted. “His disciplined background fits our desire to prepare, practice and perform at the highest level on a nightly basis.”

Levin is entering his fourth season at the helm of the UMSL program, where he owns a 99-58 (.631) record. He guided the program to a 41-13 record last season, the second most wins in program history. The squad also won the program's first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament championship and earned its third bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament, while receiving a national ranking of No. 22.

In his first season (2011), Levin directed the program to a 31-20 record and the program's second regular season GLVC title in three seasons with a 20-5 record. For his efforts, he was named the league's Coach of the Year.

“I want to thank Lori Flanagan and the administration at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for allowing me the chance to pursue this opportunity," Levin said.
