Salisbury Unanimous No. 1 in NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Salisbury University used a 6-0 week to remain No. 1 and earn all eight first-place votes in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III softball rankings.

Junior pitcher Rachel Johnson tossed a pair of perfect games and struck out 28 batters over 17 innings to account for half of the (31-1) Sea Gulls’ victories for the period spanning April 7-13.

Montclair State (25-1) went 4-0 to remain second, while Texas-Tyler (32-2) swept three games from Concordia (Texas) to stay at No. 3 and defending national champion Tufts (21-3) was a perfect 7-0 to maintain the fourth position.

Trine (24-1) and Linfield (31-7) are still No. 5 and 6, respectively, while East Texas Baptist (29-5) used a no-hitter and a perfect game in the final two games of a 3-0 sweep of University of the Ozarks to jump three spots to seventh.

Luther (21-6) remained eighth and Coe (26-5) stayed ninth, while Piedmont (41-6) dropped three places to No. 10 following a 6-3 week that included a pair of losses to then-No. 16 Emory.

The University of Chicago (17-3), Wisconsin-La Crosse (17-5) and William Paterson (20-6) all received votes for the first time this season, while Rowan (21-8) returned to the mix after a one-week hiatus. Ithaca, Williams, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Wittenberg and Washington (Mo.) University dropped out.
