Tufts back at No. 1 in NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Another 5-0 week returned defending national champion Tufts to the top spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top 25 softball rankings.

The (31-3) Jumbos earned all eight first-place votes to supplant last week’s No. 1 team, Texas-Tyler (37-3), which dropped to second after failing to finish its sweep of a three-game series with Louisiana College. Tufts was last ranked No. 1 four weeks ago and has spent six of 11 weeks this season in the top spot, including the first four.

Idle Linfield (34-7) moved up two places to the No. 3 position, while Salisbury — the top-ranked team two weeks ago — is the new fourth-place team. Montclair State (34-4) slides one spot to No. 5 after a 4-2 week.

Christopher Newport (35-6) and Trine (33-2) are tied for sixth, East Texas Baptist (35-5) is eighth and Coe (33-6) remains ninth. Virginia Wesleyan (37-5) is the new No. 10 team after collecting an automatic NCAA bid for winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament title.

Wisconsin-Whitewater (27-8) returned to the rankings for the first time since April 9, while Thomas More (29-8) and Rochester (22-10) also joined the poll. Alfred, Anderson and Wisconsin-Oshkosh dropped out.

The NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll is selected by eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions. Records as of Monday are listed, with first-place votes in parentheses.
