Perez, Fournier Score Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jayme Perez of East Texas Baptist and Tufts’ Allyson Fournier have been selected as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Perez, a freshman designated player and leadoff hitter for the (39-7) Tigers, was a powerful contributor to her team’s run to the American Southwest Conference (ASC) title game.

The Austin, Texas, native hit five home runs in six ASC Tournament games, including four straight contests. Five of her seven hits on the week were homers and two of the homers went off the scoreboard in left field at Texas-Tyler’s Suddenlink Field. Perez added a .280 average, five runs scored and seven runs batted in to her ledger to earn ASC All-Tournament team recognition. Earlier this week, she was selected as the First Team designated player on the ASC’s All-Conference team.

Fournier, a junior right-hander for the defending national champion (37-3) Jumbos, was 4-0 for the week with a 1.04 ERA to lead her team to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship. She fanned 30 batters in 27 innings, while allowing 15 hits, five walks and four earned runs.

The South Windsor, Conn., native won all three of the Jumbos’ games at the tournament, including taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning in Tufts’ 7-0 victory over Middlebury in its tournament opener last Friday, and she defeated Williams College twice on the Ephs’ home field to claim the crown. Fournier also beat Wheaton (Mass.) in a tournament tuneup last Tuesday, collecting 11 strikeouts while allowing four hits over eight innings.
