DIII Championship: Coe Makes It Two Close Ones in a Row

For Coe, all it takes is one. After a 1-0 victory in its first game of the Division III national championship in Montclair, N.J., Coe topped Tufts by the same margin to remain undefeated.

A solid pitching performance from both teams amounted to just seven hits overall. Coe's Sonja Schwenker came out on top, getting the complete game victory and giving up just three hits. Tufts Lauren Gelmetti, despite giving up just four hits herself, took the loss.

All of the offense in the game was generated by Coe in the top of the third with fundamental softball. A leadoff walk from Amanda Hanson was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Leonard. Hanson would score on a Katherine King infield single.

Coe will battle Messiah for the commanding spot in the championship game tomorrow at 4 p.m., while Tufts will face UT-Tyler in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m.
