Ohio State, Illinois State 2-0 After Friday’s LOC Play

 Ohio State and Illinois State, two of the three teams that completed two games on Friday, are the only 2-0 teams at the conclusion of Friday’s play at the 14th Annual NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic. The 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. games were completed as scheduled. All games originally scheduled for 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. were rained out. Full Leadoff Classic Schedule 

At this time, Saturday’s games are expected to be played as originally scheduled. 

No. 1 Alabama’s offense slugged three home runs in nine hits as the Crimson Tide dispatched No. 19 Southern Illinois 8-0 in five innings. Alabama’s offense connected at a .375 clip as a team and was perfect defensively in their lone game of the day against the Salukis. 

Sam Marder of No. 24 Ohio State leads all players at the Leadoff Classic with two home runs. Marder powered two home runs over the outfield fence in the Buckeyes 7-0 victory over No. 25 Mississippi State. Ohio State went on to defeat Hofstra by a score of 2-0. 

No. 6 Michigan also presented some impressive offensive numbers, hitting .357 as a team (10-for-28) in a 6-0 victory over Virginia Tech. Dorian Shaw led the Wolverines with two RBI and two walks, while Stephanie Kirkpatrick had two RBIs in the contest as well. 

Illinois State leads all teams with 10 RBI in Friday’s play. The Redbirds started the day with a 4-1 win over Long Island an finished with a 7-0 win over South Carolina at the main stadium.
