Outstanding Division II Player Performances

Julie Fromm, North Dakota State, Sophomore, Pitcher, Kelso, WA 

Julie Fromm tossed her ninth and 10th shutouts of the season in improving to 25-3. She broke the school career record for shutouts with 28. The old mark was 27 set by Sara Bosch (1996-98). She is already the NDSU career strikeout leader with 518. Fromm worked out of a bases-loaded jam with one out in the fourth inning vs. Moorhead State. She struck out the next two batters to keep the shutout bid intact. Fromm allowed just one extra base hit, a double vs. Moorhead State. The two teams combined to hit .196 (10-for-51) vs. the NDSU pitcher. She lowered her earned run average to 1.10 with 176 strikeouts and 19 walks in 191.2 innings pitched. North Dakota State went 3-0 in weather-shortened week, improved to 40-4 overall.

Erica Miller, Bloomsburg, Junior, Shortstop, Williamsport, PA.

Erica Miller hit .500 (11-for-22) in six games last week for the Huskies. She scored six runs and drove in seven with four extra base hits, a double, two triples and a homer. Had a slugging percentage of .545 for the week. Now has 31 career homers, two shy of the school's all-time mark of 33.


Kasey Martin, Missouri Southern State, Sophomore, Catcher, Riverton, KS.

Martin batted .667 (10-for-15) in four games with six runs, five RBI, one double, four home runs and no strikeouts. Against Emporia State University, in the first game she went 4-for-4, three singles, and a home run. In the second game she went 3-for-3, with three home runs. Martin's season stats: .429 BA, .895 Slg%, 10 2B, 9 3B, 7 HR, 33 RBI, FLD% .990. Missouri Southern State went 4-0 during the week with a win against Univ. Nebraska Omaha ranked 13th in the last poll.

Annie Sells, Armstrong Atlantic State, Sophomore, Pitcher/Designated Player, (Chattanooga, TN.

Sells pitched a three-hit shutout at Georgia College & State, struck out 14 batters, went 2-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI in the doubleheader, including her ninth home run of the year. She had a one-hit shutout at Valdosta State, struck out 15 batters. Sells won 5-3 at No. 2 North Florida, beating Ospreys’ Trish Davis head-to-head. 8 IP 5 H 3 R 11 strikeouts. Also went 4-for-8 at the plate in the doubleheader sweep. Numbers for the week: Hitting: .333 (7-for-21) with four runs scored. IN the circle, she was 3-0, 0.95 ERA, 40 strikeouts in 22 innings (12.7 Ks/7 inn.) For the season, she is batting .397 with nine home runs and 36 RBI. In the cirlce, she is 17-2, 0.69 ERA, 213 strikeouts in 132.2 innings. Armstrong Atlantic State is 43-4, No. 3 in the NFCA Top 25.

Starla Payne, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Sophomore, Pitcher, Marlow, OK.

Payne went 4-0 with two saves. She has won her last 15 games. Starla threw 27.1 innings, had 4 walks, 26 strike outs, 16 hits, 6 runs, and one earned run for and ERA of 0.26. Southeastern Oklahoma State has won 21 out of their last 22 games.
