The following is the submission letter entered by Southaven HS:

The Southaven High School softball field was established in 1999. In 2006, the field’s name was changed to honor former head coach Morris Hunter, who died in 2005. In honor of Hunter, the field is now known as Morris Hunter Field. Morris Hunter Field is home to five state championships, seven North Half titles, nine district championships and nine Chicksaw Conference championships.

New head coach Shane Staten, who was an assistant to Hunter from 2001-2005, has worked numerous hours to make Morris Hunter Field one of the best fields in Mississippi. In 2007, new dugouts, a backstop, concession stands and bleachers were added to Morris Hunter Field. Also, a Dixie choppier and Cushman drag machine were purchased to help maincure the field. Players, coaches and parents have spent a lot of time and money in making Morris Hunter a great atmosphere for players and spectators. Special thanks go out to principal Jeff Gilder and superintendent Milton Kuykendall ofr building such a great complex.
