NFCC Course 404 Offered in Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 14-16

 NFCC Course 404 will be offered in Columbus, Ohio, on the campus of Ohio State University, November 14-16 at OSU Stadium. 

Course 404, entitled “Solid Team Defense and Strategy,” will include instructors Patrick Murphy, head coach at Alabama; Jacquie Joseph, head coach at Michigan State; and Kate Drohan, head coach at Northwestern.

The course emphasizes how to put your individual players together to build a defensive team. Specific points of interest include: 

• Study various defensive sets and discuss how to select the appropriate set for various game situations 
• Identify and understand skills required to execute pickoffs and rundowns 
• Learn how to handle special situations (wild pitch/passed balls, dropped third strikes, intentional walks) 
• Respond to steals, extra-base hits, bunts and slaps 
• Increase your understanding of angles, principles of jurisdiction, communication systems and primary/secondary back-up charts 
• Learn to interpret statistics and position your players with a purpose in mind 
• Use the DP/FLEX rule to your advantage 
• Discuss pitch calling, pitching strategy and defensive game plans 
• Accumulate drills for the practice of defensive team skills and strategies

NFCC classes can be taken for personal growth and development as a coach or as an opportunity to earn continuing education units through Mississippi State University, Master Coach status or credits toward a master’s degree in kinesiology through Texas Woman’s University.
