Iowa Lakes Community College Earns NJCAA Division II Coaching Staff of the Year honors

 Iowa Lakes Community College has been named the NJCAA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced today. 

Head coach Mike Bosch and assistant coach Megan Anderson led the Lakers to the NJCAA Division II Region XI Championship and a fifth-place national finish. Iowa Lakes finished the season with a 56-13 record. 

The Lakers had a pair of Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division II All-Americans including infielder Stephanie Ochoa and outfielder Kimmie White, adding pitcher Aly Bowers, infielder Camiel Salcedo and outfielder Brittany Brohmer on the second team. Brohmer was also named to the NJCAA Division II Softball National Tournament All-Tournament Team. 

Ten of the 2008 Lakers, including Ochoa and Salcedo, are expected to return in 2009 to defend the school’s first Region XI championship in school history. 

Regional Coaching Staff of the Year winners include: 

South Region 
Johnson County Community College (37-11) 
Head Coach: Kelly Latendresse, Assistant Coach: Lindsay Wells 

This season, Latendresse led the Lady Cavaliers to a 37-11 record and a tie for fifth at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. In 2007, her first season, Latendresse guided JCCC to a second-place finish in the national tournament, the highest finish in team history. Latendresse has a record of 83-25 (.769) with two region titles and two top 5 finishes at nationals.

East Region 
CCBC Catonsville (29-10) 
Head Coach: Chuck Slater, Assistant Coaches: Fred Marll, Charles Saunders, Beth Slater, Marty Rouse, and Rob Hess 

CCBC Catonsville Coach Chuck Slater's team was a Co-Champion in the Maryland Juco Conference with a 15-1 record. The Lady Cardinals went undefeated in the Region XX Tournament and finished tied for 9th in the NJCAA National Tournament. He had five players named to the All-Region XX Team, five players named to the All-MDJUCO Team, and five players named to the NFCA All-East Region Team. Coach Slater achieved his 100th win this season.
