Stabilizer Solutions Joins NFCA as "Official Playing Field Surface"

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has reached an agreement with Stabilizer Solutions for the family-owned company to become the association’s “Official Playing Field Surface.”

Founded in the mid-1980s by Jon and Jim Hubbs, Stabilizer Solutions will select winning fields for the “Stabilizer Solutions Field of the Year” awards as part of a three-year agreement with the NFCA.

Stabilizer Solutions features a line of top-tier field mixes including Stabilizer®, Stabilizer® Ballyard Mix and, the company’s newest product, Hilltopper®.

Hilltopper® is the most advanced playing surface on the planet, according to the company. Hilltopper® is a natural soil or clay coated with a polymer that protects the soil against the elements while providing a uniform surface which makes it possible to play during a hurricane. The substance actually repels water, never produces dust, and takes very little maintenance.

“Each soil particle is coated with a polymer; it’s sort of like when you waterproof natural wood,” Sara Hubbs, Jon’s daughter and marketing specialist for the company said. “It seems like it’s wet, and you don’t even need to water it.”

Besides the Hilltopper® Infield Mix, which is used on the Arizona and Northwestern softball fields to name a few, the company also produces Hilltopper® Warning Track Mix and Hilltopper® Mound Clay.

Among other professional teams, the San Diego Padres use Hilltopper® Warning Track Mix on its warning track at Petco Park, while the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim use Hilltopper® Warning Track Mix, Hilltopper® Mound Clay and Stabilizer® on the infield. The Hubbs also work with the Diamondbacks organization’s Field Building Program and have donated their product and time in building fields around the Phoenix area.

Sandy Fischer, currently coaching on the PFX Tour, serves as a softball applications advisor for the company. The NFCA member also coached at Oklahoma State, leading the Cowgirls to the Women’s College World Series six times.
