Angelo State Rallies to Knock Off C.W. Post

NCAA Division II Softball Championship

Angelo State pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to rally from an early deficit and knock off LIU-C.W. Post 2-1 in Thursday’s second game of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship in Akron, Ohio.

After allowing a Melissa Hippo RBI single in the bottom of the first, all-American Kari Galm held C.W. Post (45-16) scoreless the rest of the way to pick up the win and move to 32-6 on the year.

“This was a classic pitcher’s duel,” Angelo State head coach Travis Scott said. “Both pitchers threw extremely well. You win them how you can get them.”

The Rambelles’ two-run third kicked off with a single from all-American Kandace Kubat, who went 2-for-3. She advanced to third on a sacrifice, and eventually scored on a wild pitch. With two outs, Laura Lopez gave ASU (53-11) the lead for good with an RBI single to right center that scored Kaycee Taylor.

Hippo paced C.W. Post at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Samantha Yodowitz fell to 31-8 on the year as she surrendered both runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

Galm allowed the lone run on eight hits and struck out four while walking three in the winning effort.

Angelo State will face Lock Haven tomorrow at 5 p.m. EDT, while C.W. Post will take on Columbus State in an elimination game.
