Wayne State's Yetman Claims Second Straight Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of Week Honors

Wayne State (Mich.) hurler Molly Yetman has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the association announced Wednesday.

Yetman went 6-0 for WSU with three victories coming via shutout and one by combined shutout. She allowed 10 hits and one run on the week for a 0.18 ERA, and she struck out 58 while walking just seven as the squad captured the regular-season Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.

The junior from Cambridge, Ontario, highlighted her week by hurling the first perfect game in school history in a win over Ashland.

The only run and extra-base hit allowed came in the week’s opening game against Lake Superior when she gave up a late home run with WSU ahead 10-0. She pitched the final inning and a third of the second game of the twin bill and picked up the win after fanning all four hitters she faced.

Yetman finished the week by extending her scoreless innings streak to 32 innings, including 10 shutout frames in a week ending victory over Ferris State.

The Friday victory over Ashland gave her the school’s single-season strikeout record as she tallied 223 K’s for the year.
