Yetman Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of Week

Wayne State (Mich.) junior pitcher Molly Yetman has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week, the association announced Wednesday.

Yetman posted a perfect 3-0 mark in the circle as Wayne State won five games on the week.

The Cambridge, Ontario, native hurled 23 scoreless innings, allowing 11 hits and seven walks while striking out 33.

She left the week’s opening game against Hillsdale with an illness after pitching two innings in which she allowed a trio of hits. She came back strong the following day, however, going the distance and allowing three hits in a 4-0 win over Grand Valley State, the No.2 team out of the Great Lakes region in the latest NCAA regional rankings.

She followed that outing with a one-hit blanking of Quincy before allowing a pair of hits over two innings of the final game of the doubleheader.

Yetman closed the week with a complete-game effort against Missouri-St. Louis in which she surrendered a single hit, her fourth one-hitter of the season, and walked one. The run-rule shutout was the 11th of the season for the hurler, giving her the school single season record for shutouts.
