Arizona Tops First NFCA RPI of 2007

2007 NFCA Simulated Ratings Percentage Index

Arizona finds itself where it finished 2006, No. 1 in the 2007 NFCA Simulated Ratings Percentage Index as compiled for the third straight year by mathematician Warren Nolan.

The Wildcats claim the top spot with a 0.6795 percentage that comes in just ahead of Alabama, who holds the second spot in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll as well.

The Crimson Tide leads a group of three SEC squads, the most of any conference, in the top 10. Tennessee, top-ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll, comes in a No. 7, just ahead of LSU.

Arizona State joins its in-state rival Arizona as the only Pac-10 foes in the top 10. Despite having one less team in the top 10, the Pac-10 tops the conference RPI, just ahead of the SEC, Big 12 and ACC.

The Big Ten and Big 12 both landed a pair of teams in the RPI top 10. Northwestern and Michigan come in at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, while Oklahoma and Texas A&M rank fifth and sixth. Hawaii rounds out the top 10 after jumping out to a 35-8 mark on the year.
