Humboldt's Prescott Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of Week

Humboldt State junior pitcher Lizzy Prescott has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week for the week ending Apr. 1, the association announced Wednesday.

Prescott guided the third-ranked Lumberjacks to a third straight Tournament of Champions title with a 6-0 week in which she compiled a 0.17 ERA while giving up 10 hits with three walks and 54 strikeouts over 41 and two-thirds innings. Two of her six victories were no-hitters.

The Castro Valley, Calif., native opened the week with a no-hitter against Chaminade in which she struck out a season-high 16 hitters.

In the Tournament of Champions, Prescott picked up wins over nationally ranked Hawaii Hilo, Hawaii Pacific and Cal State Stanislaus to go along with victories over Seattle and Sonoma State.

Prescott and HSU opened the Tournament of Champions with a 3-0 win over Seattle in which Prescott went the distance and allowed two hits while striking out 10.

She followed that outing with a no-hitter of then-No. 11 Hawaii Hilo in which she struck out nine. In the Lumberjacks’ next game, Prescott went the distance and allowed a run on five hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks as HSU knocked off Hawaii Pacific 2-1 in 12 innings.

Prescott picked up another victory against Sonoma State as the junior tossed an inning and two-thirds of perfect softball in relief of Tracy Motzny to send the Lumberjacks to a championship showdown with Cal State Stanislaus, who was ranked No. 12 nationally at the time.

Prescott went the distance against Stanislaus, allowing just three hits while striking out six to give HSU the tournament title.

With the undefeated week, Prescott runs her record to 21-1 on the year and has been victorious in her last 13 straight decisions. In 23 appearances on the year, she has gone the distance 19 times and allowed 19 runs, 12 earned, on 70 hits for a 0.54 ERA. Prescott has struck out 182 hitters this season while allowing just 25 to reach via walk.
