Leadoff Classic Brackets Announced

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The University of Michigan closed out  which begins Sunday during the final day of action at the 12th annual NFCA Leadoff Classic

The Wolverines closed out Saturday’s pool play with a 2-0 win over Southern Illinois and a 10-2 run-rule victory over North Carolina to emerge as the only squad with a perfect mark through the first four games. 

UM will face Virginia Tech in Sunday’s opening round of gold bracket action, while Tennessee Tech faces Georgia Tech in the other gold bracket match-up. 

Illinois State dropped a tough decision to Virginia Tech in the nightcap of Saturday’s games, but will be the top seed in the silver bracket. Fellow Missouri Valley Conference competitor Southern Illinois earned a spot in the foursome along with Baylor and Florida State. 

The bronze bracket is dominated by SEC competitors as Georgia, Florida and Auburn all finished third in their respective pools to join Nebraska in the group after the Cornhuskers knocked off Mississippi State Saturday evening at the South Commons Stadium and Complex. 

The Bulldogs claimed the top seed in the blue bracket and will take on North Carolina at 9 a.m. Sunday. The other contest in the bracket features Massachusetts taking on Coastal Carolina. 

DePaul and Lehigh will face-off in the Green bracket, while Seton Hall and Hofstra square off in the opposite side of the pairings. 

Each team is guaranteed two games in bracket play, weather permitting.
