The Mexican National Softball Federation has announced exhibition games vs. #2 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WSBC) ranked team Japan and open tryouts for the junior’s/women’s national Softball Team.
The exhibition games versus Japan will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2018 with game times set for 5:00 p.m. PT and 7:00 p.m. PT and on Sunday, February 11, 2018 with game times set for 1:00 p.m. PT and 3:00 p.m. PT. All games will take place at Barber Field in Irvine, California and the gates will open 30 minutes prior to game time. Tickets for the event can be purchased for $25 for stadium seats or $20 for general admission. In addition to the exhibition games versus Japan, Team Mexico will hold open tryouts for the Junior National team on January 25-27 in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and from February 9-11, 2018 at Barber Field in Irvine, California.
Athletes with Mexican heritage born in 2000 and beyond who are interested in reserving a spot for the junior’s open tryouts should contact Carlos Caro by e-mail at email@example.com or by showing up to the tryouts on February 9, 2018 at 5:00 pm. The cost of participation in the tryouts is $80.
“Last year’s victories over Canada and the USA, as well as the 2016 victories over Australia and Netherlands, have prompted Team Mexico continue to work hard at getting better as a team and for our program to be able to compete head to head with the world finest programs. We know that the World Softball Championship will feature top notch competition and we want to provide our athletes with the best opportunities to succeed in their quest of preparing and competing for a qualifying spot in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo” stated Ing. Team Mexico recently received their highest WBSC ranking in the history of the program moving up to sixth place in the world. This year, the Women’s National will travel to Hiroshima, Japan from June 9-23, 2018 to hold a training camp and exhibition games as part of the preparation for the major summer events in 2018. Mexico will then continue their preparation by competing in the USA World Cup of Softball from July 7-15, 2018 in Irvine, Los Angeles. From there, the team will travel to Barranquilla, Colombia from July 17-27, 2018 to participate in the Central American and Caribbean Games following a trip to the World Softball Championship in Chiba, Japan on August 3-12, 2018.
