Calling it fast is an
understatement.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  Southern Arkansas outfielder Brooke Goad and Chico State’s Haley Gilham were named the Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively. The duo earned the honor after outstanding play for the week of Feb. 12-18.

Goad made the most of her four hits, homering in each of Southern Arkansas’ four games last week. The senior hit .500 (4-for-8) with seven RBI, five runs scored as the seventh-ranked Lady Muleriders went 3-1. She also drew six walks, attributing to her .714 on-base percentage, and slugged 2.000. Goad, a native of Waxahachie, Texas, knocked in two runs against Pittsburg State and three versus Concordia-St. Paul. The Great American Conference (GAC) Player of the Week leads the league and is third in Division II with seven long balls.

Gilham, who hails from Norco, Calif., posted two complete-game shutouts as No. 8 Chico State swept a four-game California Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) series from Cal State San Marcos. The senior hurler allowed just three hits, fanned 20, walked four and held Cougar batters to a .067 batting average. On Saturday, she was a bad-hop single away from a no-hitter in which she struck out 11 in a 4-0 victory. A day earlier, the CCAA Pitcher of the Week surrendered two hits, recorded nine punchouts and walked three in a 3-0 triumph. Her four shutouts to start 2018 lead Division II.
