LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Michigan’s Faith Canfield and Washington’s Gabbie Plain were named Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played Feb. 26-March 4.

Canfield, a junior form Garden Grove, Calif., led the Wolverines with a .579 average (11-for-19) en route to a 5-0 showing at the Judi Garman Classic. The 11 hits came in 11 straight plate appearances over a four-game stretch. She registered back-to-back four-hit contests against Charlotte and then-No. 8 Baylor.

Canfield homered, scored twice and knocked in a run against the Bears. She hit her second home run of the weekend and drove in all three runs in a 3-1 victory over then-No. 18 Louisiana. The second baseman was flawless defensively, recording seven putouts and nine assists without committing an error. The Big Ten Player of the Week finished the tournament with six RBI, five runs scored and two long balls.

Plain picked up two wins in the circle against then-No. 11 Alabama. She tossed 10 scoreless innings over the weekend as No. 1 Washington went 5-0 in its home-opening Husky Classic. The rookie from Harrington Park, Australia struck out 11 and allowed just three hits, zero for extra bases and held her opponents to a .086 batting average.

In game one against the Crimson Tide, Plain twirled a two-hit shutout. She fanned four and walked one in the five-inning victory. She then went the first four innings, surrendering one hit and striking out five with no free passes in 4-1 victory over Alabama. Additionally, she tossed a scoreless inning with two punchouts in a win over Northwestern.
