LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two NCAA records and two dominant pitching performances were showcased as Belmont’s Lexi Rouse, Alabama’s Alexis Osorio and LSU’s Carley Hoover earned Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played March 5-11.

Rouse left the yard in five straight at-bats, snapping a 16-year old NCAA Division I record held by Canisius’ Jill Iacono (2002), and homered a total of six times last week. The first of her consecutive dingers came in her final at-bat against Mercer. The two-run shot extended the Bruins’ lead to 3-0 and proved to be the winning hit. The senior from Macon, Ga. continued her streak with three solo blasts in a defeat to Kennesaw State. Rouse capped off the record streak with another solo shot to put Belmont on the board in a 4-0 triumph over Mercer.

For the week, she hit .600 (6-for-10) with all six of her hits going over the fence. Rouse drove in seven runs, scored six times and slugged 2.400. Coming into the week, Rouse had hit just one home run on the season. Additionally, her outburst surpassed her season totals of five in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Osorio became just the second NCAA Division I pitcher and first since Cal’s Michele Granger in 1991 to strike out 21 batters in a seven-inning game. Sitting down all 21 Fordham Rams, Osorio also set a single-game program record. The senior from Riverside Calif. also added a no-hitter in her first start of the week, shutting out the Boston College Eagles.

Against the Rams, she allowed two runs on two hits with one walk. Osorio’s performance broke her own program record of 19 set last season in a perfect game at Coastal Carolina. Against BC, she fanned 11 and allowed just two base runners on a walk and hit-by-pitch. Osorio capped off the weekend with a save against Samford, punching out the final batter on three swinging strikes. For the week, the SEC Pitcher of the Week went 2-0 with a 0.98 ERA, 32 strikeouts, three walks and a 0.43 batting average against.

Hoover was a big reason LSU swept then-No. 10 Auburn in its SEC opening series in Baton Rouge. The senior righty picked up two wins by striking out 18, not allowing a run, walking one and limiting a high-powered Auburn offense to just nine hits and a .176 batting average over 14.2 innings of work.

In the 14-inning opener, she entered with one out in the sixth and struck out 10, scattered six hits and walked one in a 3-2 victory. In the series finale, the Clemson, S.C. native twirled a three-hit shutout, fanning eight and not walking a batter in a 1-0 triumph. For Hoover, this is her second NFCA honor, earning Pitcher of the Week in 2016.
