LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that 389 student-athletes from 164 programs have received 2018 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
New in 2018 is the addition of a third pitcher selected to each region’s first team.
Oregon and Oklahoma led the charge with all eight of their nominations receiving all-region recognition in the Pacific and Central regions, respectively. UCLA (West), Washington (Pacific), Georgia (Southeast), Hofstra (Northeast) and Arizona (West) took home seven honors apiece. Michigan (Great Lakes) and Boise State (Pacific) came in next with six recipients each.
The Ducks and Bruins claimed the top spot with five first-teamers. The Sooners, Huskies, Wildcats, Pride, Wolverines, Florida (Southeast) and Baylor (Central) each earned four first-team plaudits.
Alabama and Texas A&M topped the South Region led their respective regions with five honorees. The Pride and Dukes each had three first-teamers recognized, while the Crimson Tide and Aggies garnered two apiece.
Notre Dame (Mid-Atlantic) and UNCG (Mid-East) posted four selections to top their respective regions. In the Midwest Region, Illinois, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, South Dakota State and Drake captured four nods each, with the Fighting Illini and Cowgirls posting three first-team accolades. Also capturing three first-team selections was USF in the Mid-East.
Conference players and pitchers of the year from member institutions are added to the third team if they were not already voted to an All-Region squad. In some instances, limited regional nominations prevent a position being filled.
The 2018 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 30, via NFCA.org.
