UCLA third baseman Andrea Duran has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week, the association announced Wednesday.
Duran played a key role in the top-ranked Bruins’ three wins over top-10 foes Arizona State and Arizona, going 6-for-11 at the plate with five runs scored, a double, three home runs and four RBIs.
The senior from Selma, Calif., posted a 1.455 slugging percentage, and she led off two games with round-trippers.
In the weekend-opening 7-4 win over Arizona State, Duran knocked a full-count offering out left field in the first and followed it with a two-run blast in the fourth.
In the opening game against No. 4 Arizona, Duran led off with a double and scored the Bruins’ first run in a 2-1 victory. She followed in the second game of the two-game set with a leadoff home run on the second pitch of the game. She also singled twice, scored and was intentionally walked as UCLA knocked off the Wildcats 8-3 to hand UA its first home losses of the season.
On the season, Duran ranks second on the squad with a .347 average and 25 RBIs. She leads the team with 10 home runs, nine doubles, 38 runs scored and 16 stolen bases on 18 attempts.
