Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City, Texas), whose winning streak has improved to 69 games, remains No. 1 in the latest USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 poll, released by the association on Thursday. The Knights are 26-0 so far this season.
Corona (Calif.) is second after its 12-0 start in the Golden State prep ranks. They are followed by poll regular Pacifica (Garden Grove, Calif.), whose only loss of the season came to Elkins.
Keller (Texas), the 2003 Texas 5A champion, is fourth. Upstart University High (Palm Harbor, Fla.) is fifth, while Central Cabarrus (Concord, N.C.) is sixth in the tabbing.
Another Texas 5A power, Tomball, is seventh. 2003 national champion Bartow (Fla.) dropped a game to No. 12 Chamberlain (Tampa, Fla.) and dropped to eighth. Oakdale (Calif.) and Sabino (Tucson, Ariz.) round out the top ten.
St. John Vianney (Holmdel, N.J.) began its 2005 campaign with a 2-0 start, its 35th consecutive win, and checks in at No. 11. Chamberlain follows at 12th, then Dobson (Ariz.), Spruce Creek (Fla.) and Lee (Midland, Texas).
St. Amant (La.) downed previous unbeaten Denham Springs (La.) and jumped to No. 16 in the poll. Garland (Texas) is 17th, followed by Cactus (Glendale, Ariz.), El Torro (Lake Forest, Calif.) and South Florence (S.C.).
The last five ranked teams are Southwest (Miami, Fla.), Camarillo (Calif.), Buena (Sierra Vista, Ariz.), Thousand Oaks (Calif.) and A&M Consolidated (College Station, Texas).
