View the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25
Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City, Texas), off to a 21-0 start after winning the prestigious Bullhead City Tournament of Champions, is ranked No. 1 in the first release of the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 Poll.
The Knights began last season ranked No. 1, and went wire-to-wire as they finished the season with a perfect 39-0 capped off by a Texas 5A championship.
Pacifica (Garden Grove, Calif.), whose only loss came to Elkins at Bullhead City, is ranked second, followed by 2003 national champion Bartow (Fla.) at third. Cactus (Glendale, Ariz.)
Keller (Texas) is sixth, Central Cabarrus (Concord, N.C.) is seventh, followed by Tomball (Texas) and Arizona 4A power Sunrise Mountain (Peoria, Ariz.) at No. 9. Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) rounds out the top ten.
Three California prep teams are next. Notre Dame (Salinas, Calif.) is 11th, followed by Oakdale (Calif.) and Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.). Cocoa (Fla.) is off to an 11-0 start and is ranked 14th, while Sabino (Tucson, Ariz.) is ranked 15th after a 7-0 start.
Florida 2A power and poll regular Hollywood Christian is 16th, followed by Thousand Oaks (Calif.), Chamberlain (Tampa, Fla.), Denham Springs (La.) and Lee (Midland, Texas).
The last five ranked teams are Escambia (Pensacola, Fla.), St. Amant (La.), Sierra Vista (Buena, Ariz.), Edison (Fresno, Calif.) and Stratford (Ladsen, S.C.).
