View the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll
Northern Kentucky is off to a 12-0 start, and for the first time in school history, the Norse are ranked No. 1 in the NFCA Division II Softball Poll, released Wednesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The Norse have registered wins over perennial powers Shippensburg and Kennesaw State to begin the season. NKU, which received four of the eight possible first place votes, is currently participating in the Rebel Spring Games in Central Florida.
West Florida is off to a 19-1 start, and is ranked No. 2 in the first regular season poll. The Argonauts received three first place votes. Shippensburg remains third, followed by Kennesaw State and Humboldt State.
St. Mary’s (Texas) is sixth, followed by Alabama-Huntsville. Emporia State, Angelo State and poll newcomer Francis Marion round out the top 10.
Caldwell is ranked 11th. The Cougars are followed by Bloomsburg, UC San Diego, North Florida and Lynn.
LeMoyne jumped two spots from the preseason poll to No. 16. Cal State Bakersfield is 17th, while Grand Valley State dropped four spots to No. 18. Preseason No. 1 Florida Southern is off to a 13-6 start, and fell to No. 19.
Four of the next five teams in the poll are making their season debut. South Carolina-Upstate is 20th, Central Oklahoma is No. 21, St. Leo is tied with Missouri Western for the 22nd spot while Concordia-St. Paul is No. 24. The last ranked team is Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Eight teams dropped out of the poll, led by preseason top 10 selections St. Cloud State and Colorado-Colorado Springs.
