Arizona's Alicia Hollowell has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for the week of march 31-April 6.
Hollowell was impressive in the Wildcats' three-games last week with No. 3 Washington and then-top ranked UCLA. Arizona went 3-0 last week and ascended to the No. 1 spot in the latest USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll. Against Washington on Friday, Hollowell pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and striking out 12 in a 3-0 Arizona win. Hollowell tossed her sixth one-hitter of the season on Saturday, as Arizona upset UCLA 3-0 at Easton Stadium. She allowed one run in the Wildcats' 5-1 victory on Sunday. For the weekend, Hollowell went 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA. On the season, the freshman from Suisan, Caalif., is 24-2 with a 0.33 ERA. She has struckout 236 batters in 168 innings. Against Pac-10 opponents, she is a perfect 6-0 with a 0.36 ERA. Hollowell is the first freshman to garner NFCA Player of the Week honors this season and the first since Cat Osterman on April 17, 2002.
