The SPARQ
rating is the SAT of athleticism. Created with the help of
nationally-recognized trainers and coaches, the SPARQ rating combines what
were isolated, individual tests of speed, power and explosiveness into a
single number characterizing overall athleticism. For fastpitch softball, the
four drills are the linear sprint (20 yards), the 20-yard shuttle, vertical
jump and rotational power ball throw. The SPARQ rating uses the following
guide to evaluating players: 129.00 – 80.90 (Top 10%); 75.70-58.70 (Average to
Above Average); 53.20 – 30.00 (Below Average to Average).
