LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two perfect games and a perfect showing at the plate highlight this week’s Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week awards. Findlay’s Alexys Antal and Augustana’s Grace Glanzer collected the player and pitcher honors, respectively, for their outstanding performance for games played April 8-14.
Not only did Antal twirl a perfect game on April 13 against Malone, she was a perfect 12-for-12 at the plate, reaching base in all 15 plate appearances (three walks) over the course of two doubleheader sweeps by the Oilers The sophomore southpaw retired all 15 Pioneers, striking out five of the first seven batters she faced and finishing with seven punchouts to record the program’s third perfect game. Antal also went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI in the contest. Overall offensively, the Topeka, Kan. native finished with three doubles, three runs scored and three RBI.
In picking up her second nod of the season, Glanzer also tossed a perfect game last week as she went 3-0 on the road helping the Vikings extend their winning streak to 16 games. She wasted no time in her first start of the week, setting down all 15 Sioux Fall batters with two strikeouts. Glanzer went the distance in a two-hit shutout at Bemidji State, fanning six and walking one. She closed out the week allowing a run on five hits and striking out seven over four innings against Minnesota Crookston. Glanzer went 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA, 16 strikeouts to one walk over 16 innings of work.
The above awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
